KEPSA will spearhead efforts to engage the government and key private sector stakeholders in addressing queries around the levies introduced in the first schedule of the #EPRRegulations 2024, which currently pose a significant negative impact on the business environment. This is following a strategic meeting held today between KEPSA, led by CEO Ms. Carole Kariuki, and the Packaging Producer Responsibility Organisation (PAKPRO – KEPSA Member) CEO, Ms. Joyce Gachugi, together with the Board Vice Chair, Ms. Susan Maingi.
The strategic meeting focused on the private sector’s efforts to strengthen compliance with EPR Regulations gazetted in 2024. It was widely acknowledged that successful EPR implementation in Kenya depends on policy coherence, sustained knowledge exchange, business commitments to circularity, and in-depth consumer awareness to increase waste collection and recycling.
KEPSA will also collaborate closely with PAKPRO, through SIB and KPP, to advance efforts of imparting knowledge to informal waste service providers (WSPs) and businesses about effective waste management, new business models and policy compliance.
Also present was Ms. Josephine Wawira – KEPSA Corporate Communication Manager and representatives from Sustainable Inclusive Business Kenya (SIB-K) under KEPSA, including Ms. Karin Boomsma (Project Director), Mr. Denis Kiplagat (Project Officer) and Mr. Kaburu Munene (Circular Economy & Research Specialist).
