February 2026 Issue | A Strategic Partnership by SIB-K & Radio Africa Group

Theme: The Circular Economy in Practice: From Paper to Practice

Focus: Moving the circular economy from a “buzzword” to tangible economic opportunities for youth and SMEs.

Sustainable Inclusive Business Kenya (SIB-K), the knowledge centre under the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), in partnership with Radio Africa Group, is pleased to invite contributions for the February 2026 issue of the Circular Economy and Climate Change Journal. Read more.

As Kenya accelerates its transition towards a green and inclusive economy, this monthly journal, published within The Star newspaper on the last Tuesday of the month, serves as a vital platform for thought leadership, evidence-based reporting, and the promotion of climate-smart solutions. We are seeking insightful, solutions-driven articles that bridge the gap between policy frameworks and ground-level implementation.

FEB 2026 ISSUE: RATIONALLE

Kenya operationalised the Sustainable Waste Management (EPR) Regulations, 2024 and new Plastic Packaging Regulations, while NEMA directs counties to enforce segregation at source; a National Plastics Action Platform (NPAP) has also launched to coordinate action.

Suggested sub-themes and angles

We encourage contributors to explore the following area

  • EPR 101 for Kenya: registration, take-back schemes, fee modulation, reporting.
  • Counties in focus: segregation at source, color-coded bins, material recovery facilities.
  • How PROs work: roles, costs, targets; integrating waste pickers fairly.
  • Compliance diaries: a brand owner’s 12-month path to an approved EPR plan.
  • The “Last Mile” of Waste: Why source segregation stalls and how to fix collection disconnects.
  • Urban Mining: Opportunities in recovering gold/copper from e-waste & safety gaps.
  • The Repair Economy: Validating the Fundis/Juakali sector through “Right to Repair” policies.
  • Waste-to-Wealth Initiatives: Showcasing businesses and communities transforming waste into valuable resources (e.g., waste pickers, recycling, upcycling).
  • Sustainable Manufacturing and Product Design: Examples of Kenyan companies designing products for longevity, repairability, and recyclability.
  • Circular Agriculture and Food Systems: Innovations in reducing food waste, promoting regenerative farming, and utilizing agricultural by-products.
  • Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Implementation: Case studies on how businesses are adapting to and benefiting from EPR regulations in Kenya.
  • Cost of Living vs. Cost of Living Green: Addressing the sentiment that sustainability is “expensive” and highlighting where it saves money.

Deadline: Friday, 13th February 2026
