People Power

It is undoubtedly clear that an organization’s most important asset is its people at SIB-K. We like emphasizing the level of transformation we see in organizations that apply a People-First Approach. Without people, there is no business! If the COVID-19 pandemic is anything to go by, sustainable businesses and organizations understand that the future of work no longer depends on a one-size-fits-all approach.

We also strongly support gender diversity and inclusion across all industries. Every individual, regardless of their gender, should have equal opportunities to succeed in their chosen field. We encourage businesses and organizations to prioritize gender inclusion by implementing policies and practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Doing so can create a more equitable and just society that benefits everyone.

Business is People!

At Sustainable Inclusive Business, we help you look to your values and guide you through building a people-centric business structure that values the well-being of the people you work with, from the employees to the suppliers and the communities surrounding your company. We help you translate this into a model that makes business sense and positively impacts your bottom line.

Our vision is to see organizations embed life-transforming cultures by modeling environmentally friendly workplaces, giving employees a sense of purpose, engaging and understanding their stakeholders’ needs, and delivering their mandate with a positive impact on the people and planet.

Preparing for the Future of Work

The time is now to become proactive in managing the future of employment, jobs, and skill sets. Generational gaps are showcasing different needs between the current and future workforce, and organizations must prepare or be left behind in this work evolution. Technology, globalization, and geopolitical and demographic transformations are already significantly impacting how we work today.  How are you preparing your systems and the people for this inevitable transition?

Here are some of our foreseen characteristics of the future of the workforce.

  • Conscious.
  • Purpose-driven.
  • Always reskilling and upskilling.
  • Open to redeployment.
  • Extremely social.
  • Agile.
  • Resilient.
  • Global.
  • Dynamic.
  • Digital.
  • Remote.
  • Open communicators.
  • High interpersonal skills

Community Engagement, Awareness, and Behaviour Change Projects

Our current systems have led to challenges and habits that are up for review and transformation. The negative impact on the planet and people is not sustainable due to our current linear thinking and how we produce and consume in our current economic system and society. Inequality is a big problem, and the gap between the rich and the poor is only getting bigger. It is time to turn the tide and create new systems conducive to a thriving and healthy society. How do we raise awareness, connect, and interact with people to contribute to change, to be motivated and included to shape a new circular, sustainable, ethical, and thriving world? We develop projects with feet, ears, and voices on the ground.

Through projects such as the COAST (Creating Opportunities and Alleviating Poverty Through Sustainable Trade), we link issues and solutions to communities. The COAST Project, launched in 2020, identified the waste challenge in Mombasa and the opportunity to engage with community members on better waste management for a cleaner and healthier environment. Furthermore, we created green jobs by facilitating the training of over 200 women and youth on the waste-to-value concept, enhancing their income-earning capacity and access to sustainable financing through our partnership with local financial institutions.

Our Gender Mainstreaming in Waste Management Toolkit has provided a practical manual to help address gender-related challenges within the waste value chain. This will go a long way in empowering women within the waste sector by providing them with essential skills and knowledge, enabling them to overcome gender biases and advance in their careers effectively.
